Law enforcement agencies are relying more and more on video surveillance technology to deter criminal activity and keep neighborhoods safe. To meet the changing demands from the public safety sector, evolving video surveillance technology has led to more sophisticated equipment and solutions, such as multi-layer component systems and video analytics.

Multi-camera systems, quickly deployable pan-tilt-zoom cameras, IP systems integration, and video motion detection are just a few of the features that allow police personnel to effectively monitor events in real time. The following companies are leaders in the video surveillance industry that develop and manufacture products and services for the law enforcement market. Read the rest of the article: Law and Order 9.2011

Like many public safety agencies, the DeKalb County Policy Department needed to enhance service despite limited budgets. Heavy case loads and resource-intensive eyes-on surveillance were compromising officer and community safety. Remote video surveillance systems were expensive and had geographic limitations.

DeKalb County turned to Sprint and Crime Point for an Internet-based video surveillance solution using a wireless data connection. The introduction of Sprint 4G provided increased speed and bandwidth and enabled the department to pilot and subsequently purchase the PeripherEye video surveillance system. The enhanced, continuous video stream for improved situational awareness and officer safety, and the reduced operator workload were key deciding factors.

According to Tim Donahue, Detective, DeKalb County Policy Department, “4G allows higher quality images and a higher frame rate for a more accurate view of what’s going on in real time. It only takes a split second to hide a gun or hand an object from one person to another. With 4G there’s less of a chance of missing something critical.”
