Like many public safety agencies, the DeKalb County Policy Department needed to enhance service despite limited budgets. Heavy case loads and resource-intensive eyes-on surveillance were compromising officer and community safety. Remote video surveillance systems were expensive and had geographic limitations.

 DeKalb County turned to Sprint and Crime Point for an Internet-based video surveillance solution using a wireless data connection. The introduction of Sprint 4G provided increased speed and bandwidth and enabled the department to pilot and subsequently purchase the PeripherEye video surveillance system. The enhanced, continuous video stream for improved situational awareness and officer safety, and the reduced operator workload were key deciding factors.

Word got out on the street that buyers could be found at an Oxnard warehouse — and the sellers came calling, offering stolen cars, drugs and guns, according to authorities.
