Crime Point, manufacturer of wireless video surveillance equipment for public safety agencies, has introduced an intelligent multi-camera/single-screen network video system called the Peripher(Eye)™.

The Peripher(Eye)™ system combines wide angle cameras and a color IP pan/tilt/zoom camera to allow law enforcement officers to view and record simultaneous targeted and wide-angle activity. The system provides a simple-to-use, effective solution to the common problem of lost peripheral awareness when the operator zooms in to obtain details such as facial features, license plates or hand-to-hand transfers. With multiple connectivity modalities and an optional ruggedized, high-performance MJPEG network DVR, the Peripher(Eye)™ is available in overt and custom enclosures with up to four slaved cameras in a single, simplified viewing interface for quickly deployed or long-term surveillance applications.

According to Crime Point president Daniel McLeod, the company engineered the Peripher(Eye)™ after one of its law enforcement customers missed a stabbing that occurred just below an IP camera when it was zoomed in on a target some distance away.

“The officers and the PTZ camera did exactly what they were supposed to do. But if the Peripher(Eye) had been available, they would have caught the crime when it occurred. Our goal is to mobilize our engineering resources to meet unmet needs as we are made aware of them by our public safety clientele,” said McLeod. Crime Point introduced the Peripher(Eye)™ system three months after learning of the incident.
